Commemoration for the Victims of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

A commemoration program for the victims of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on 6 August 1945 was held in Hiroshima on 5 and 6 August 2017. Within the program highest Japanese state officials, a number of citizens and children, numerous foreign participants as well as foreign ambassadors accredited in Japan laid flowers at the cenotaph for the victims of the atomic bomb. High school students from Hiroshima handed over the Peace Message to the representatives of all the countries present at the commemoration program. The peace message for Croatia was written by James Weber, a junior high school student from Hiroshima. There was a meeting with the atomic bomb explosion survivors organized for the foreign diplomats. Prime Minister Abe, in speech given during the main part of the commemorative program, has very strongly pointed out the necessity of efforts aimed at global peace and the future with the world free of nuclear weapons. Ambassador Hrastic participated in the commemorative program as a personal envoy of Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
