Croatian President Stjepan Mesic received the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, with whom he discussed bilateral issues, notably the cooperation in energy, tourism and shipbuilding industries.
Apart from bilateral relations, the two delegations also briefly discussed some international issues, such as the present global economic crisis and the situation in Iraq. The Emir of Qatar said that the global economic crisis highlighted the importance of cooperation between small countries like Qatar and Croatia, that such cooperation was very much needed and that it would help them overcome the crisis. Sheikh al-Thani also expressed a wish to pay a private visit to Croatia in summer, which President Mesic welcomed.
