Political relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Arab Republic of Egypt
Political relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Arab Republic of Egypt are friendly, with no open issues, and they have been improving on all levels in the recent years. The Croatian and Egyptian governments share many common views and goals regarding the challenges of contemporary world.
The Arab Republic of Egypt recognised the Republic of Croatia on April 16, 1992, and the full diplomatic relations were established on October 1, 1992.

The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Zagreb is run by a charge d'affaires and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia with seat in Rome is H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ashraf Gamal Eldin Rashed
The Consulate of the Republic of Croatia in Alexandria was established in December 1996. led by Honorary consul Mr. Moustafa Yakout El-Naggar.
Most important recent bilateral meetings:
• October 16, 2002, on the occasion of the opening of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, H.E. President Stjepan Mesic, President of the Republic of Croatia met H. E. President Hosni Mubarak, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
• October 2002, H.E. Vice Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Goran Granic visited Egypt to attend the World Energy Council, and met Prime Minister Ebeid and minister of oil and petroleum.
• Six Croatian ministers visited the Arab Republic of Egypt (3 ministers of foreign affairs, minister of economy and minister of interior)
• H.E. President Stjepan Mesic visited Egypt on April 23 and 24, 2005, and layed a wreath on the newly renovated Croatian Memorial Cemetery of the Croatian refugees from the World War II in El Shatt, on east bank of Suez Canal.
Parliamentary cooperation
The Foreign policy committee of the Croatian Parliament, invited by the Foreign Policy Comitee of the Egyptian Parliament, visited the Arab Republic of Egypt in the period May, 6-12 2003.
Bilateral cooperation
The Republic of Croatia and the Arab Republic of Egypt signed following agreements:
• Treaty on Cooperation in the Field of Crime Combats
• Agreement on cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology
• Treaty on economic cooperation
• Treaty on trade
• Agreement concerning the promotion and reciprocal protection of investments
• Agreement on tourism cooperation
• Agreement on maritime transport
Cooperation in the fields of Culture, Science, Education, and Sports
The Republic of Croatia and the Arab Republic of Egypt have very successful cooperation in the fields of culture, science, education, and sports. They have signed the Agreement on co-operation in the fields of Culture, Education, Science and Technology. A new three-year program of activities is in process of negotiation.
Cultural and promotional projects for 2006:
• Presentation of Croatian cultural heritage at Helwan University
• Presentation of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb in Al-Sawy Culture Wheel on the occasion of the World's Museum day
• Croatian artists took part in the First Alexandria Art Saloon
• Members of the Embassy took part in the football tournament in Ahli sports club on the occasion of World Football Cup
• Exhibition “ Croatian Lighthouses” presented in Cairo and Alexandria
