Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandrokovic, accompanied by H.E. Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Mr. Dražen Margeta met on October 26, 2009 with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani and Minister of State for Energy and Industry Mohamed Salah Al Sada. Minister Jandrokovic expressed satisfaction with the fact that he is the first Croatian foreign minister to officially visit Qatar, as well as a wish that his visit would prompt further deepening and strengthening of the two friendly countries' bilateral relations. A certain contribution to that end, said Minister Jandrokovic, was the recent visit to Croatia by Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalif Al Thani. With the aim of maintaining the current level of bilateral contacts between the two countries' high officials, the minister officially invited his host to visit Croatia. The collocutors agreed that said meeting should bring about further intensification of both the political and economic cooperation, as well as the cooperation in all other areas, reiterating the readiness to start cooperating in educations, also expressed during the recent visit to Croatia by the Qatari minister of endowments and Islamic affairs. The meeting placed special emphasis on the economic cooperation which, the ministers agreed, has a clear perspective and is being complemented by a regular yearly increase in the trade balance. In order to further enhance the cooperation, the ministers agreed, it would be necessary to maintain regular consultations between the two countries' economic officials and businessmen, which would serve to get familiar with the market and internal laws in detail, as well as with the current capital projects. The same day, Minister Jandrokovic also held a meeting with Minister of State for Energy and Industry Mohamed Salah Al Sada, which saw the participation of representatives from Dioki, Geofizika, the Brodarski Institute and CMC Sisak, who presented their business opportunities. The collocutors agreed that the economic cooperation still leaves a lot of room for enhancement and identified fields of mutual interest, such as infrastructural works, namely the construction of energy facilities and energy distribution, oil and gas industry, food industry, metallurgy, shipbuilding, tourism, chemical and wood-processing industry. The last day of his stay in Qatar, Minister Jandrokovic signed the Protocol on Cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Training and Human Potential Development Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar in Diplomat Training, and the Protocol on Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Croatia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar in Political, Economic and Other Areas.
