Ambassador Dražen Margeta called on the Speaker of the People's Assembly of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ahmed Fathy Sorour. Mr. Sorour is discharging the post of the Parliament speaker since 1990 and is regarded as one of most experienced politicians in Egypt.
Mr. Sorour inquired about the state of negotiations between the Republic of Croatia and the European Union in the process of Croatian accession to the EU. He also wanted to learn about Croatian contribution to the United Nations peace keeping operations. Ambassador Margeta told him Croatia is contributing to eleven UN peace keeping missions worldwide. He also described the way Croatia has passed from being recipient of the Peace Keeping forces to the country that today contribute to the peace keeping operations and is sharing it's first hand knowledge in conflict prevention and reconciliation.
Economic issues were being discussed as well. It has been noted that in spite of good bilateral relations economic exchange should be bigger, as the trade balance today is near to 45 millions of dollars. IN that respect Ambassador Margeta informed Speaker Sorour about the forthcoming third meeting of the Joint Trade Committee of Croatia and Egypt that will be soon held in Zagreb.
