During their stay in Beijing on 17 and 18 August Speaker Bebić had four official meetings.  He met with his host Mr. Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the National People's Congress and with Mr. Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.  Speaker Bebić was also received by Minister Wang Jiarui, Head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China and Mr. Hua Janmin, Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress.  All interlocutors thanked Speaker Bebić for a very successful visit by President Hu Jintao to Croatia in June, reiterated their friendship and high degree of political trust, the importance of regular exchange of visits, especially among the parliamentarians and political parties, and pledged their support for realization of concrete cooperation projects.  Special emphasis was placed on economic cooperation, with a focus on attracting Chinese tourists and investments to Croatia, including into the projects of transportation and tourist infrastructure.

Delegation of the Croatian Parliament, led by its Speaker Mr. Luka Bebić, paid an official visit to the People's Republic of China from 16 to 22 August 2009.  The members of the delegation were Professor Dr. Ivo Josipović (Social Democratic Party) – President of the Croatian-Chinese Parliamentary Friendship Society, Mr. Stanko Grčić (Croatian Peasant Party), Dr. Mišo Munivrana – Head of the Speaker's Office, Mrs. Marina Štancl – Assistant to the Secretary General for International Affairs and Chief of Protocol, and Mr. Stjepan Vukas – Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament.

Besides Beijing, the delegation also visited the cities of Xian (19–20 August) and Shanghai (21-22 August). In Xian Speaker Bebić met with Mr. Zhao Leji, President of the People's Congress of the Shaanxi Province who is also Secretary General of the Shaanxi Province Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.  In Shanghai, Speaker Bebić held talks with Mr. Liu Yungeng, President of the People's Congress of the City of Shanghai.  During their stay in Shanghai, the delegation also visited the premises of the future World EXPO 2010, where the members of the EXPO Organizational Board introduced the project to the delegation with a special emphasis on the EXPO participation of the Republic of Croatia.

The Chinese and the Croatian side agreed in all meetings that there was a great need to ennoble the political contacts with concrete projects of economic cooperation.  Dissatisfaction has been voiced by the Croatian side with respect to exceptionally large deficit in trade cooperation.  Hence the assistance of the host has been requested in reducing the latter deficit via participation in investment projects in Croatia.
