State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Davor Bozinovic visited Washington, DC from June 28 until June 30. During his visit, State Secretary Bozinovic had meetings at the National Security Council, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, on the Capitol Hill, and held a lecture at the German Marshall Fund.
State Secretary for Political Affairs at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Davor Bozinovic visited Washington, DC from June 28 until June 30. During his visit, State Secretary Bozinovic had meetings at the National Security Council, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense and on the Capitol Hill, and held a lecture at the German Marshall Fund.
In lecture entitled “Croatia and Southeast Europe on the path to Euro-Atlantic integration”, State Secretary Bozinovic underlined the key role that expansion of NATO and EU has had for peace and prosperity in Europe. He also spoke about engagement of the Croatian contingent in the NATO-led peace mission in Afghanistan.
At the White House, State Secretary Bozinovic met with Director for Central and Eastern European on the Jeffrey Hovenier and Vice President's special advisor on European Affairs Taylor Ruggles who emphasized the role of the Republic of Croatia as best positioned state for bolstering the process of Euro-Atlantic integration in the region, since Croatia as a neighbor knows well the region and has unique experience of accession negotiations.
At the Department of State, State Secretary Bozinovic met with Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Philip Gordon, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey D. Feltman, Principle Deputy Assistant Secretary Nancy McEldowney and Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Dan Feldman. Assistant Secretary Gordon congratulated Croatia on its achievements in EU negotiations and emphasized that USA will continue to strong support NATO and EU enlargement to Southeast Europe. During a meeting with Assistant Secretary Feltman, State Secretary Bozinovic said that Croatia follows with great interest events in the Middle East, and exchanged views with Assistant Secretary after his recent visit to the region.
During a meeting with State Secretary Bozinovic Assistant Secretary of Defense Alexander Vershbow underlined appreciation for contribution of Croatian troops in Afghanistan, stressing that in short period of time Croatia, from being a receiver of international peace mission, became important contributor to the world security. Also, State Secretary met with the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia David Samuel Sedney.
On the Capitol Hill, State Secretary Bozinovic met with Senator Mark Begich, with whom he talked about the security situation in Afghanistan. He also had a meeting with the Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe Bill Delahunt during which Euro-Atlantic perspective of countries of Southeast Europe was discussed.
