At a ceremony in Washington on June 19, 2013, Ms. Katrin Gluic was recognized by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry as one of the “2013 Heroes in the Fight Against Modern Slavery” for her work to combat modern slavery in Croatia.
As a Chief Police Inspector within the National Police Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime, Ms. Gluic coordinates human trafficking investigations and oversees assistance to victims of human trafficking and forced labor. She designed and coordinated an anti-trafficking training program that is used by many law enforcement organizations in Croatia, and she oversees assistance to trafficking victims as a leader of Croatia's highly effective and innovative Mobile Teams, which can rapidly deploy to provide initial care and protection to trafficking victims.
