Croatian guitarist Zoran Dukic returns to the Washington stage in January

Concert is Saturday January 23 at 8 pm, at the Westmoreland Congregational Church, 1 Westmoreland Circle, Bethesda, MD, on the John E. Marlow Guitar Series. Zoran Dukic is one of the most admired classical guitarists of our time. His concert performances leave audiences and critics in awe of his effortless fluidity on the instrument and his inspired musicality. He has given solo performances in over 30 countries, and performed for the first time in Washington DC at the John E. Marlow Guitar Series in 2015. Returning to the series by popular demand, the opportunity to hear this phenomenal performer is not to be missed. Dukic graduated from the Music Academy of Zagreb, Croatia, and then completed his studies with Hubert Käppel at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany. In Dukic’s "tour de force" competition years (1990-1997) he won an astonishing number of competitions, a record still unsurpassed. He remains the only guitarist to have won both prestigious "Andrés Segovia" competitions, in Granada and in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. At the most prestigious Spanish guitar competition, the “Guerrero” patronized by the Royal Family, Dukic was awarded not only the first prize, but the special prize for the best interpretation of Spanish music, making him the first non-Spaniard to ever receive this honor. Dukic’s Marlow concert program will include Romantic Spanish repertoire as well as works from the Renaissance to the modern day, from Bach to Piazzolla. In addition to concertizing, Dukic teaches master classes around the world, inspiring the next generation of guitarists. He is on faculty at both the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Netherlands and the Escuela Superior de Musica in Barcelona, Spain. Dukic will teach a master class for DC classical guitar students on Sunday January 24, 1pm-4pm at the Chevy Chase Village Hall, 5906 Connecticut Ave. Chevy Chase, MD. The class is open to the public.
