Croatia President Ivo Josipovic on a working visit to the United States

Croatian President Ivo Josipovic visited the United States for a working visit which took place May 12-17 and focused on energy security and energy projects developed by Croatia. During his stay in Washington DC, President Josipovic met with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, members of the US Congress and representatives of several government and nongovernmental institutions and with members of the Croatian American community. The issues discussed at the meeting in the White House included energy security, situation in Ukraine and South East Europe with emphasis on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Vice President Biden thanked President Josipovic for his strong support of European efforts to enhance energy security and diversification. President Josipovic spoke of the need for Croatia to be included in Visa Waiver Program (VWP) and to sign Double Taxation Agreement with the U.S., which would further enhance the level of economic cooperation. President Jospiovic said after the meeting that Vice President Biden assured him that Croatia generally met all the requirements regarding VWP, but the issue was related to the whole U.S. immigration policy which Congress was currently discussing. The talks also addressed Croatia-U.S. cooperation in NATO and the further modernization of the Croatian military. Croatia"s delegation to Washington D.C. also included Defense Minister Ante Kotromanovic who continued his visit to the U.S. in Minnesota where he visited the National Guard. President Josipovic continued his visit in Houston, Texas, where he attended an energy forum which brought together representatives of approximately 30 oil and gas companies. The Texas leg of the President’s trip was primarily dedicated to energy security and the energy projects Croatia has been developing.
