On 11 June 2025, staff members of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Tirana, Vanja Popović and Vanja Gavran, visited the “Iliria” primary school and kindergarten in Fushë-Krujë, which was reconstructed with support from the Government of the Republic of Croatia following the devastating earthquake that struck Albania in November 2019.
The Croatian Embassy representatives were welcomed at the school by Principal Blerim Cela, together with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Entela Lako and Eglantina Gollaj, who coordinated the implementation of the reconstruction.
The pupils and kindergarten children prepared a short programme and presented symbolic gifts as an expression of gratitude for the support and solidarity received.
During the visit, the importance of education as a foundation for development was highlighted, along with the continued strengthening of friendly relations between Croatia and Albania.
The reconstruction of the “Iliria” school forms part of a broader contribution to the rehabilitation of educational infrastructure in Albania after the earthquake, implemented in cooperation with UNDP as the executing partner.
Further cooperation on similar projects is anticipated.
