SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE BY RENATA POKUPIC IN LONDON Croatian mezzo-soprano Renata Pokupic sang the principal role of Dido in Purcell´s Baroque opera "Dido and Aeneas", on Wednesday, 10th November 2004 in London. It was a concert performance conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists. The performance was held in the East Wintergarden, Canary Wharf, followed by a reception attended by several hundred invited guests, both from a thriving local business community and representatives of major artistic institutions in London. The audience greeted musicians with a very enthusiastic applause, particularly the soloist Renata Pokupic. Sir John Eliot Gardiner is one of the most distinguished British conductors and a key figure in the early music revival. Recent highlights include a rapturously received and sold out performances with Renata Pokupic in "Dido and Aeneas" in Cite de la Musique in Paris and Opera de Lyon. French daily newspaper “Le Figaro” has published a very good review of the Paris performance mentioning “the impeccable style of Renata Pokupic”.
