Mass for the Homeland

On Sunday, 31 May 2026, a Mass for the Homeland was held at the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in London to mark Croatia’s Statehood Day, as well as the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia and Croatian Army Day. The Mass was celebrated by Fr Ljubomir Šimunović, Head of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London and Delegate for Croatian Pastoral Care in Western Europe, together with Dr Ante Vidović, Deputy Head of Mission at the Apostolic Nunciature in London.
 
Following the Mass, Davor Ljubanović, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the United Kingdom, addressed those present and extended his congratulations on the occasion of Croatia’s Statehood Day. In his remarks, he thanked Croatian war veterans, members of the diplomatic service and the Croatian diaspora for their contribution to the establishment and international recognition of the Republic of Croatia. He also acknowledged the role of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London in preserving Croatian identity and supporting the Croatian community in the United Kingdom.
 
The event also featured a performance by the Youth Choir of the Croatian Catholic Chaplaincy in London, conducted by Terezija Štimec, MMus.
