CreativeCroatia Festival inaugurated in London
In order to present contemporary Croatian culture to the British audience, the Croatian Embassy in collaboration with the British-Croatian Society launched the new Festival entitled creativeCroatia. Carefully selected aspects of contemporary Croatian culture - literature from young and talented writers, the visual arts, music, theatre, architecture and film - will give audiences in London an opportunity to enjoy Croatian contemporary culture from April until June. The Festival was inaugurated at the Croatian stand at London Book Fair by the Ambassador Dr Ivan Grdešic. Some of the most significant Festival events are: the study conference “The Athlete of Croatia: a bronze youth from the sea“ at the British Museum, dedicated to the centrepiece of the exhibition Defining Beauty, the Croatian Apoxyomenos. This was followed by London Book Fair in which Croatia on its own stand presented its young and talented contemporary authors. The creativeCroatia festival continued at Kristin Hjellegjerde gallery, with freelance curator Vanja Žanko giving a lecture on Contemporary Croatian art. Dubrovnik presented its wonderful festivals in St James Theatre and the agency School"s own adventure introduced their study tours to Croatia to the numerous British school principals and teachers. These events were followed by a project called Littlebig Shakespeare, which was dedicated to British elementary school students. The following events of creativeCroatia festival are the concert of Croatian pianist Diana Brekalo, which will take place on May 19 at St Martins-in-the-Fields, and the photo exhibition of 13 notable photographs, which will be opened on May 28 in the Croatian Embassy. The exhibition of the sketches of the costumes by Neven Mihic as well as a short festival of Croatian documentary will take place in June. Croatian Independence Day will be celebrated on June 17 at British Museum, when the creativeCroatia Festival will be officially closed.
