Ambassador Grdešic visits Northern Ireland

Ambassador Grdešic visited Northern Ireland from 31 March-1 April. This was the Ambassador"s first official visit to Belfast and the first opportunity to meet with the representatives of the devolved administration of Northern Ireland. Ambassador met the Speaker of the Assembly Mr. William Hay, Junior Ministers in the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister Mr Jonathan Bell and Mrs Jennifer McCann, Director for international affairs Tim Losty and several Members of the Legislative Assembly. The topics discussed included democratic development in postconflict societies, regeneration, issues deriving from possible Scottish independence, EU assistance for the peace process and various economic issues – tourism, shipbuilding, the growth of creative industries and agricultural potential. Ambassador Grdešic also met separately with the Head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland, Mrs Colette FitzGerald.
