A lecture on the sculptor Oscar Nemon in London

On Thursday, 28 September 2023, at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in London a lecture about the sculptor Oscar Nemon was held by his daughter, Lady Aurelia Young. She presented his interesting life and work to the members of British-Croatian Society, from his birth in Osijek (Croatia) in 1906 until death in Oxford in 1985.
 
Oscar Nemon was born in a Jewish family Neumann that lived in Croatian town Osijek. He perfected his talent in Vienna and Brussels, and in 1939, fleeing Nazi persecution, he settled in England, where he started a family. During the Second World War, most of the Neumann family was killed in the Holocaust.
 
This exceptional artist met Winston Churchill in the United Kingdom and made several sculptures of him, the most famous of which are the marble bust from 1956 exhibited in Windsor Castle, commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II, and also the statue of the most famous British Prime Minister in the lower house of Parliament.
 
He made statues and reliefs of numerous famous figures, including Sigmund Freud, the Queen Mother, Elizabeth II and Margaret Thatcher.
