Croatian Ambassador Dr. Damir Kušen visited Finnish Arctic research center for global climate change At the invitation of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), Ambassador Dr. Damir Kušen visited Finnish Arctic Research Center, the radar systems and satellites and weather monitoring stations in the northern Lapland on 6-7. April 2010. Finland is very active in researching the possible consequences of global climate change from increasing greenhouse gases, ozone depletion, the rapid melting of Arctic sea ice cover and disturbance of biological, ecological and hydro systems. Finland participates in many international projects in the field of satellite communications and monitoring, development and application of innovation and high technology. The program included visits and detailed insight of the Finnish research projects, technological innovations and models linking the Meteorological Institute with a number of institutions affiliated with the national security of the country (military, police, civil aviation and maritime and road transport, maintenance of key infrastructure, telecommunications and satellites, agriculture and etc). FMI Director General Dr. Petteri Taalas invited the ambassadors of the United States, Canada, UK and Croatia for the two day visit that included promotion of the national systems of meteorology and research priorities. In joint discussion possible forms of further cooperation in the field of global climate change were tackled. With the existing good cooperation between Croatia and Finland in the field of meteorology, Croatia is interested to further deepen the engagement, due to its large regional differences and climate (Mediterranean, Dinaric Alps, continental).
