PM Sanader on visit to Ireland

Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Dr Ivo Sanader visited Ireland 2-3 March 2006. During his official visit, he met with An Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahern TD and addressed the National Forum on Europe.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Dr Ivo Sanader visited Ireland 2-3 March 2006. During his official visit, he met with An Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahern TD and addressed the National Forum on Europe. On the second day of his visit he joined the Taoiseach in planting a tree at Farmleigh House, Dublin, thus launching the National Tree Week. The return visit of the Croatian Prime Minister has further strengthened the good bilateral relations between the two countries. At the National Forum on Europe Prime Minister Sanader stressed the importance of EU and NATO membership for Croatia. Additionally, he pointed out that all government and opposition parties in the Croatian parliament were united in an alliance for Europe. Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD has congratulated Prime Minister Sanader on Croatia's progress to date on the progress in accession negotiations and has assured him of Ireland's continued support. Both Prime Ministers noted excellent bilateral relations and agreed that greater potential exists to develop trade, tourism and economic relations. Prime Minister Sanader expressed satisfaction about his visit to Ireland, “a friendly country which has profited very much from admission to the EU, and Croatia wants to follow its example”.
