Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Gordan Jandrokovic paid an official visit to the Republic of Austria on 25 March 2008, during which he met with Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik. In the morning, Minister Jandrokovic will also meet with Austrian Parliament's Speaker Barbara Prammer.
During the meeting between Minister Jandrokovic and Minister Plassnik, it was pointed out that Croatia and Austria have excellent, friendly, and partnership bilateral relations, as well as an intense co-operation, namely in economy, culture, science, and justice. The excellent economic co-operation is also evidenced by the overall foreign trade, which in 2007 amounted to $2.12 billion, which is an increase of 18% in relation to 2006. Furthermore, Austria comes in first among the foreign investors in Croatia.
Minister Jandrokovic reported on the course of Croatia's EU and NATO membership negotiations, thanking Minister Plassnik for Austria's continuous support for Croatia's EU aspirations, as well as for the exchange of experience in the negotiation process. The two ministers also talked about the current situation in the region and Croatia's role in expanding the stability zone in South Eastern Europe.
During his stay in Austria, Minister Jandrokovic also met with the representatives of the Burgenland Croats in Vienna.
