INFORMATION ABOUT ACQUIRING REAL PROPERTY OWNERSHIP IN THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS AND ENTERPRISES
Since the coming into effect (25 July 2006) of the Law on the Amendments to the Law on Ownership and Other Proprietary Rights (Official Gazette No. 79/06), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration no longer has the competence over foreign physical and legal persons requests to acquire ownership rights over real estate in the Republic of Croatia.
The 3rd Article of said Law states that foreign physical and legal persons can, unless the law prescribes otherwise, under the presumption of reciprocity acquire ownership of real estate on the territory of the Republic of Croatia with the consent of the Croatian justice minister.
Pursuant to said amendments, foreign physical and legal persons will send their request for real estate ownership rights to the Croatian Ministry of Justice.
Also, all of the proceedings that have not been finished before the coming into effect of said Law will be finished at the Ministry of Justice.
