Exhibition Come with Us! in London
As curator Traian Dragan emphasized: "Thirty-five years have passed since 1990. So much has changed - perhaps everything. The boundary between the 1980s and the 1990s has been swept away by the winds of transformation. What extraordinary times those were, filled with powerful emotions, unforgettable experiences, and a profound sense of history unfolding in real time. The early 1990s were defined by hope and expectation. The collapse of communist dictatorships across Central and Eastern Europe ushered in a new era of self-determination and freedom of choice. This exhibition is a reflection on that freedom. Each participating country has contributed works that commemorate the right to choose-expressed through their own, independent selection of works for the exhibition. This conscious act of choosing leads to a striking outcome: the vitality and clarity of the goals pursued during this historic period become vividly tangible through the posters and photographs on display. Both the poster and the photograph are artistic expressions anchored in the moment - the photograph captures reality as it unfolds, the poster, by contrast, is a call to thought and action, a visual prompt that invites reflection. Together, they help shape and sustain collective memory, renewing its relevance each time they are revisited.“
This exhibition is the result of a joint effort between the European Parliament Liaison Office in the United Kingdom and the Liszt Institute, with the support of the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC London) and with the contributions of its members - embassies and cultural centers.
Embassy of the Republic of Croatia has chosen to participate with two works - a photograph taken in 1989 at the event known as “To the Beloved City - Forbidden Concert” and a photograph from the 1990 football match between Dinamo Zagreb and Crvena Zvezda.
Special thanks are extended to Hanza Media and Cropix for providing these historically significant photographs, to Goran Ogurlić, Editor-in-Chief of Jutarnji list - Croatia’s most widely read daily newspaper and one of the most influential online editions, and to Emil Vaš, photographer of the iconic football match image.
Finally, our sincere thanks go to the legendary Croatian rock musician, songwriter, and producer Jasenko Houra for his support.
The exhibition opening and panel discussion were attended by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Davor Ljubanović and First Secretary Dajana Antonija Bebek.
