Bilateral Relations
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Kazakhstan were established on October 20, 1992.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Croatia was opened on September 3, 2009, and headed by the Chargé d'Affaires until 2014, when Kazakhstan raised the level of diplomatic mission by appointing an Ambassador. First Ambassador Aslan Mussin presented his credentials on April 4, 2014.
Decision to establish the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Kazakhstan was officially made on June 12, 2015. The Embassy in Astana (now Nur-Sultan) opened on September 11, 2018, and was headed by temporary Chargé d'Affaires until the first Ambassador Refik Šabanović presented his credentials on February 6, 2019. Ceremonial opening of the Embassy in Nur-Sultan took place on April 30, 2019 during the visit of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Marija Pejčinović Burić.
Our bilateral relations are very good and friendly with the possibility of further progress, especially in the field of trade. Kazakhstan maintains an open foreign policy of constructive and productive relations with all countries, especially with China, Russia and the USA, as well as with the leading countries of the Middle East, and countries of the European Union. Relations between Croatia and Kazakhstan are marked by regular high-level meetings and mutual support in international organizations. As there are no open issues in the political field, both sides are primarily interested in the economic cooperation. Many key bilateral agreements and acts have been prepared in this area. With the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Kazakhstan and the establishment of the Intergovernmental Commissions for Economic Cooperation new opportunities for raising economic cooperation to a higher level have been created. Mutual interests exist in many areas; energy, tourism, construction and manufacturing (e.g. wood and food products), information technology, pharmaceuticals and military industry, and in the field of education and culture. One of the most important goals for the future is to establish better transport connections, especially direct charter flights. That would provide citizens of both countries with an easier way to travel and get acquainted with the natural beauties and rich cultural heritage that abound in both, Kazakhstan and Croatia.
