Tamburitza Orchestra of Križevci City Begins its Tour in China

Beijing, April 1, 2026. The Križevci City Tamburitza Orchestra began its tour in China with a reception and a short concert for selected guests, artists and media representatives. This presentation of the Orchestra before the main concerts of the tour was organized with the support of the Shunyi District of Beijing, and in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Beijing, which covered part of the costs and provided Croatian wines for serving to the guests. At the event at the Shunyi District International Conference and Exhibition Center, the attendees were addressed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the People's Republic of China, M.Sc. Dario Mihelin, Mr. Li Baojie, Deputy Mayor of Shunyi District, and Ms. Qian Li, Member of the Council of the Shanghai International Cultural Association. In their speeches, they emphasized the importance of cultural exchange between Croatia and China, as well as their satisfaction with the successfully organized tour of the tamburitza players from Križevci, whose performances have already won numerous awards throughout Europe.
 
On this occasion, the Orchestra played four original pieces from its repertoire (Igor Kuljerić: Instrumental Transformations of an Old Croatian Folk Song, Božo Potočnik: The Dove of Vukovar, Jurica Hrenić: Fantasy on a Motif from Podravina and Tihomir Ranogajec: Pannonian Rhapsody). The event was very well attended, with representatives of the diplomatic corps and local authorities, as well as music and media circles.
 
The tour of the tamburitza orchestra includes a total of three concerts: 2.4.2026. in Beijing, 3.4.2036. in Tianjin and 8.4.2026. in Shanghai, and the main organizer in China is the director of the Beijing Universal Music and Culture Development Organization (Beijing Universal Music and Culture Development) Tianna Tian, ​​​​who offered cooperation to the City Tamburitza Orchestra Križevci after their notable performance in 2024 at the World Orchestral Festival "One Future" in Vienna, where they won the Gold Award of the International Jury.
 
The tour involves 30 members of the orchestra, led by maestro Igor Kudeljnjak. The project has received support from the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Križevci, the Koprivnica-Križevci County, as well as 37 private sponsors and 176 individual donors. The Orchestra members are proud to point out that this crowdfunding initiative has generated an unprecedented level of public interest and engagement, both locally and nationally.
