On Wednesday, 26 August 2026, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman met with Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, who took part in the Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General, Consuls and Military Attachés as part of his official visit to Croatia. The meeting confirmed the friendly, partner and allied relations between Croatia and Slovakia, which continue to develop through ongoing political dialogue and close cooperation within the European Union and NATO.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations as well as current European issues, with an emphasis on European defense and security, the EU's Multiannual Financial Framework, energy security, EU enlargement and institutional reform.
They underlined the need to continue strong, multidimensional support for Ukraine and to work toward a just and lasting peace based on international law. On the topic of EU enlargement, they reaffirmed the importance of the European perspective for the Western Balkan countries, as well as for Ukraine and Moldova, in line with the principle of an individual, merit-based approach for each candidate country. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East, highlighting diplomatic efforts aimed at building peace, security and stability and protecting civilians.
Minister Grlić Radman pointed to positive trends in economic cooperation, which reached approximately €1.6 billion in 2025, and to room for its further strengthening, particularly in investment and energy. He welcomed the opening of Slovak honorary consulates in Dubrovnik and Osijek in June 2026 as a further contribution to the ties between the two countries. He also highlighted the commitment to protecting the rights of the Slovak national minority in Croatia and the Croatian national minority in Slovakia, and support for preserving their identity, culture and linguistic heritage.
"I am delighted by the continuous development of Croatian-Slovak relations across a range of areas, from the economy and defense to culture and the strengthening of people-to-people ties," said Minister Grlić Radman.
The meeting confirmed the close relations between Croatia and Slovakia and their shared readiness to further strengthen them in all areas of mutual interest.
