State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić received György László Velkey, Deputy Minister and State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, on 15 July 2026.
The meeting reaffirmed the good bilateral relations between the Republic of Croatia and Hungary and provided an opportunity to discuss ways of further strengthening them. The interlocutors expressed their readiness to deepen cooperation through continued regular political dialogue and enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Particular emphasis was placed on the successful cooperation in the field of national minority protection, which represents an important pillar of Croatian-Hungarian relations and a good practice example. The discussion also covered economic cooperation, highlighting the potential for its further development, particularly in the energy sector.
It was noted that Croatia continues to record a high number of arrivals by Hungarian tourists, contributing to stronger people-to-people ties and to the overall bilateral relationship. The interlocutors also welcomed the continued positive dynamics of cultural cooperation, underlining its importance for further strengthening the ties between the two countries.
