Croatia and China in dialogue on investments, trade, international security

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman paid an official visit to the People's Republic of China on July 21 and 22, 2025, in Beijing.

The central part of the visit was a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Wang Yi. The discussions focused on further increasing trade exchange and attracting Chinese investments, particularly in the areas of green energy and infrastructure. Grlić Radman emphasized the importance of improving access to the Chinese market for Croatian companies and boosting exports of Croatian products, as well as the need to establish a direct air link between Croatia and China to further encourage tourism and economic ties.

Wang highlighted his appreciation for Croatia’s constructive and balanced approach toward China within the European Union, based on mutual respect and understanding.

The talks also covered key security and regional issues. Grlić Radman informed the Chinese side - as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council - of Croatia’s position on the necessity of full equality for Croats as a constituent people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in line with the spirit and letter of the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement.

In discussions with Minister Liu Jianchao, responsible for the ruling party's international cooperation, specific investment and sustainable connectivity projects were explored, and views were exchanged on international security.

As part of the visit, Grlić Radman also delivered a lecture at the prestigious Center for China and Globalization (CCG) on Croatia’s foreign policy priorities, including economic diplomacy, multilateralism, and EU-China relations.
