State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić took part in the 10th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), held from November 25 to 27 in Cascais, Portugal.
The 10th UNAOC Global Forum in Cascais focused on the theme "United in Peace: Rebuilding Trust, Shaping the Future" and brought together members of the UNAOC Group of Friends, political leaders, representatives of international and regional organizations, religious leaders, business figures, civil society representatives, academics, youth, artists, media professionals, and donor agencies and foundations working on global peace issues.
In his address, Matušić emphasized that the approach to international relations is increasingly jeopardized by the rapid spread of conflicts worldwide, underscoring the critical importance of trust and solidarity in such an environment. He reflected on Croatia's own experience, which, 30 years ago, was a nation afflicted by war and aggression. He stressed that peace and prosperity can only be ensured through a united approach and effective multilateralism rooted in respect for the UN Charter, international law, and partnership.
He also addressed the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and resilience initiatives, highlighting that Croatia is committed to achieving these goals across all aspects of national economic and social development. He noted that Croatia has reached an impressive eighth place among the UN's 193 member states in implementing the SDGs.
