Croatia is internationally recognised actor in demining

Croatia is a respectable and internationally recognised actor in demining, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on Thursday ahead of a UN ministerial meeting on humanitarian mine action and its consequences for food security, which Croatia co-sponsored with Switzerland, Lithuania and Poland.

Croatia has the most experience in demining. Croatia really promoted itself as a respectable and internationally recognised actor in the system of mine action and the use of technical resources, and through well-trained and motivated personnel, Grlić Radman told the press in New York.

The Croatian foreign minister said that demining was "very important" as a security matter because minefields had negative implications for growth and polluted the environment.

The meeting, which is being held on the occasion of two years of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, was initiated by Ukraine and Italy.

Grlić Radman will address the General Assembly on Friday during the thematic unit "The situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine".

On the sidelines of the session, the Croatian minister met with the President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, and later he is expected to meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
