Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Friday received a working visit from his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský.
“Croatia and the Czech Republic are connected by centuries-old historical ties and our relations have always been exceptionally friendly. The excellent cooperation in the protection of minorities constitutes a special link. During his visit to Daruvar yesterday, Minister Lipavský had the opportunity to see firsthand how much importance is attached to nurturing the Czech language and identity in Croatia. I, on the other hand, hope to soon visit the Croatian Home and Museum in the village of Jevišovka in the South Moravian Region, the construction of which is supported by Croatia,” Grlić Radman said.
The two ministers exchanged views on a series of topics of mutual interest. They underscored the importance of the integration of the Western Balkans, which should become part of the EU, as well as the need for a stronger incentive to strengthen the rule of law and prosperity.
Grlić Radman expressed satisfaction with bilateral trade, which in 2022 surpassed one billion euros, and with the growth of Czech investments in Croatia. He added that Croatia remained a popular destination for Czech tourists, a testament to the successful cooperation in tourism.
“Croatia and the Czech Republic have similar views on the situation in the Middle East, condemning Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel and supporting Israel’s right to defend itself, while calling for the respect for humanitarian law to prevent civilian casualties,” he underlined.
Grlić Radman added that, in spite of the world’s focus on the Middle East, one must not forget Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which has been going on for more than 600 days. Croatia and the Czech Republic are unreservedly committed to helping Ukraine and its population. The two ministers said they would continue to work together to help and support a country that is going through difficult times.
