Meeting of Croatian minority and Croats abroad

Croatia's priority in its relations with Serbia is the Croatian minority in that country, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on Friday at the first meeting of the Croatian minority and Croats abroad, which is taking place in Novalja until Sunday.

In relations with Serbia, our priority is the Croatian minority, that is the measure of our relations. This issue matters the most to us, and all others are of secondary importance in comparison with the position of the Croatian minority in Serbia, said the minister of foreign and European affairs.

Croatia wants stability in the Western Balkans and a European perspective for it, of course based on its own merits, and Zagreb will help every country, including Serbia, because it is in our interest to have good and stable relations, the minister said.

Grlić Radman underscored that Croats were a national minority in 12 countries, and as an example of a good mutual regulation of this issue, he cited Hungary, the country where he had served as Croatia's ambassador.

Croatia and Hungary are examples of two countries that have successfully regulated the issue of minorities, he noted.

He pointed out that it was important to connect Croats with Croatia, strengthen communication and fight for their best possible standard.

Care and concern for the Croatian minority and diaspora is the fundamental task of the Republic of Croatia and its institutions, he said.

They are the bridge that connects Croatia with those countries, he added.
