Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Saturday and Sunday visited Los Angeles.
The minister met with Croats from San Pedro, members of the Croatian Hall and the Dalmatian-American Club, thanking them for strengthening the ties with the US, which began several centuries ago and continues to this day. The minister also reflected on the unity in times of great difficulty, such as the Homeland War, the fight for international recognition and the devastating earthquakes of 2020. He underscored that Croats abroad were informal ambassadors of Croatia in the world, not forgetting their own roots. The minister also recalled that in 2020 the government had initiated an amendment to the Croatian Citizenship Act, facilitating the acquisition of citizenship for all Croatian descendants.
In addition, Grlić Radman met with representatives of the business community of the US and Croatia, pointing out that Croatia today has a business-oriented environment, as well as an efficient, innovative, highly qualified workforce, a favorable geostrategic position and attractive incentives.
The interlocutors highlighted that there was room for strengthening economic cooperation. Considering all the potential – excellent macroeconomic indicators in Croatia, the credit rating upgrade, membership of the eurozone and the Schengen Area, OECD accession, Croatia’s entry into the Visa Waiver Program – the interlocutors agreed that trade and investment exchanges will grow, making Croatia more attractive to US investors.
They also discussed the ratification of the Double Taxation Agreement and Croatia-US economic cooperation. The Double Taxation Agreement is a vital agreement that will help businesspeople the most, strengthen cooperation and communication in business, make business ties stronger and help Croats who are returning to Croatia.
Also present were Congressman Ted Lieu, California Senator Steven Bradford and California Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, at the invitation of Dalmatian-American Club President Rudi Svorinich. The minister wrapped up his visit by touring the St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Church.
