Minister Grlić Radman meets Croatian business community in Seattle

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman visited Seattle on Friday and Saturday, where he met with the Croatian business community.

They talked about the successful annual conference of the Association of Croatian American Professionals in Zagreb and the ratification of the double taxation avoidance agreement, given that the benefits for both the American and the Croatian side with its entry into force will be multifold, with emigrants who intend to return to Croatia benefitting in particular. The minister said the biggest potential for economic cooperation with the US lies in the IT industry and high technologies, health, metal and food industry. He underscored that Croatia has some of the world’s leading technological companies, which already have US branches. The interlocutors stressed Croatia’s inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program was very important for advancing business, expressing satisfaction with talks on the introduction of direct New York-Zagreb flights.

In addition, they said there was a lot of room for progress in trade, considering all of Croatia’s potentials and its good macroeconomic indicators. “Trade and investments will continue to grow, making Croatia more attractive to US investors, notably since its entry into the Schengen Areas and the eurozone, as well as the start of negotiations with the OECD,” said Grlić Radman.

The minister also met with the Croatian community in Seattle and thanked them for all they do to promote Croatia’s reputation abroad and strengthen ties with the US.
He also met with Gig Harbor Mayor Tracie Markley. The city was founded by two Croats, Peter Goldsmith and Samuel Jerisich, and it preserves Croatia’s maritime heritage and culture as well as the history of Croatian Americans.
