Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday in Toronto met with members of the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce, John Marion, Ivan Grbešić, and Wanita Kelava.
“The Chamber contributes not only to the political, economic, social and cultural development of Canada, but also in a significant way to the development of Croatia. We are truly proud of the achievements of the Croatian-Canadian community,” underscored the minister.
The talks also concerned the current geopolitical changes prompting Croatia and Canada to work together on dealing with the challenges and strengthening joint defence and security, energy resilience and supply chain security. Additional incentive to explore the possibilities of economic cooperation is provided by Croatia-Canada trade, which showed an increase in 2022.
The meeting highlighted the successful tourist cooperation between Croatia and Canada. More than 100,000 Canadian tourists visited Croatia last year, with direct flights being reopened.
“I am convinced that the Chamber will continue to provide strategic advice on how to strengthen our relations with Canada, and that our two countries will maintain this partnership and alliance,” Grlić Radman said.
In addition, the minister met with the President and CEO of the CIBC, Victor Dodig, for talks on advancing Croatia-Canada economic cooperation. Grlić Radman thanked Dodig for his contributions to the strengthening of ties between the two countries. The two officials exchanged views on boosting trade and increasing direct investments by Canadian companies in Croatia.
Grlić Radman also visited the Croatian Franciscan Centre Queen of Peace in Norval, which for decades has been bringing together Croatian expats, underlining that unity and the Croatian spirit was a bridge of culture between Croatia and the Croatian community in Canada.
