Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday in Doha met with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
The two officials discussed the friendly and positive relations between Croatia and Qatar, with an emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation, notably in the sectors of energy, food, construction, defence, healthcare, and tourism.
In the context of energy cooperation and diversification, Grlić Radman highlighted Croatia’s plans to expand the capacity of its LNG terminal and spoke of the northern Adriatic Rijeka port as an infrastructure facility of strategic importance which provides the shortest supply routes to Central and Southeast Europe. The two officials also talked about the holding of an economic forum next year, which would bring together Croatian and Qatari businesspeople so they could directly exchange ideas and realise new projects.
Grlić Radman told Sheikh Mohammed that Qatar was an important EU partner and welcomed the country’s commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. The two officials underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation in security and migration due to the risk of instability spilling over in the form of illegal trade and migration.
Croatia and Qatar are marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year. Grlić Radman and Sheikh Mohammed underscored satisfaction with the respective opening of diplomatic offices as well as extant and future exchange of high-level visits.
Grlić Radman congratulated his host on a successfully organised FIFA World Cup, while Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Croatia on reaching the semi-final.
