State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić on Wednesday met with British Minister of State for Europe and North America James Cleverly.
The two officials underscored very good bilateral relations as well as the importance of their continued strengthening in sectors of economy, foreign, security and defence policies, justice and internal affairs, research, education, culture, climate change and environmental issues, including cooperation within multilateral forums.
In the context of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Metelko-Zgombić and Cleverly underlined commitment to additional intensification of bilateral dialogue, to be augmented by Foreign Minister Grlić Radman’s upcoming visit to London and talks with Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss.
Other topical matters discussed included EU-UK relations, response to Russia’s aggression and continued support for Ukraine, as well as cooperation within NATO. The two officials also reflected on the situation in Southeast Europe, where Croatia and the UK share an interest in stability and security. They reaffirmed support for reforms in Southeast European countries, notably Bosnia and Herzegovina, aimed at making headway on the European journey by strengthening democratic processes, human rights and the rule of law.
