On January 18, 2019, Ambassador Refik Šabanović presented copies of his credentials to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko. Deputy Minister Vasilenko expressed his satisfaction with the opening of the Croatian Embassy in Astana, especially since the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Zagreb has been operating since 2008.
During their meeting, Ambassador Šabanović and Deputy Minister Vasilenko briefly mentioned the main aspects of the current bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as the prospects for the future cooperation. They also talked about the last high-level visits and about the state of bilateral agreements, as well as about the mutual need to strengthen economic cooperation. Special mention was made of the
Astana Economic Forum, the most important annual international economic gathering in Kazakhstan, for which the Kazakh side sent an invitation to the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Croatia. Deputy Minister Vasilenko also showed interest in practical issues related to the process of opening of the Embassy, and invited the Acting Head of Protocol, Mr. Marat Kalizhanov, to join the meeting asking him to be always available in the future for all the issues related to the establishment of the Croatian Embassy.
