Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday paid an official visit to Moldova, where he held talks with President Maia Sandu, Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu, Economy Minister Sergiu Gaibu, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration Doina Gherman, and via video link with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrili?a.
The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the 30 years of diplomatic relations between Croatia and Moldova, and to discuss the prospects of further advancement of bilateral relations and cooperation, notably in the areas of economy, tourism, energy, IT and pharmaceutical industry.
With his counterpart Popescu, Grlić Radman discussed cooperation within the Joint European Integration Commission, underscoring Croatia’s willingness to share its own European integration know-how and experience with Moldova.
Grlić Radman expressed support for Moldova’s European aspirations and the new government’s reform efforts, as well as for the country’s desire for a tighter cooperation with the EU within the Eastern Partnership, in accordance with the principles of differentiation and inclusivity.
The officials exchanged views on the security situation in Eastern Europe, with Grlić Radman underlining Croatia’s support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova within its internationally recognised borders. In that context, he reiterated Croatia’s commitment to finding a peaceful and comprehensive solution to the Transnistria issue within the existing 5+2 negotiating framework.
In addition, Grlić Radman and Popescu signed a memorandum on cooperation between the two ministries’ diplomatic academies.
