The works are well underway for the reconstruction of the 9-year school "Iliria" in Fushë-Kruja a project which is being implemented from UNDP Albania with an investment of Euro 1 Million from the Government of Croatia, part of the Education Recovery Support fund after the devastating earthquake of November 26th, 2019. The School is being rebuilt from scratch according to the highest international safety standards "Eurocode 8". It is foreseen that the school will be ready to welcome 131 pupils, 13 teachers and 24 children. The school and the kindergarten will be safer buildings, with modern classrooms, indoor and outdoor sports playgrounds, cooling and heating system, psychological and medical room, suitable auspices for various cultural activities etc.
Minister Counsellor of Croatian Embassy in Tirana Maja Drmač and representatives of UNDP Albania paid a monitoring visit on the ground and learned more about the project's progress from the engineers and project staff. During the inspection, Mrs Drmač said: "This is a strategic investment of Croatian Government in Albania. It is an investment for the future generations of Albania and the future of Albania. That is why it has very special importance. We are looking forward to seeing the completion of the schools before the next academic year to serve the 150 children and 13 teachers. The school is being built with the highest European standards, will be bigger, safer and well-equipped with all necessary equipment needed for the teaching and learning process“.
Meanwhile, by expressing gratitude towards the Croatian Government for this important partnership, UNDP Albania's representatives highlighted the 2 basic principles of the intervention: "Build Back Better" and "Build Back Together". With this investment for the future, the young generation of this community will enjoy the same standards as their peers in Europe.
