Minister Grlić Radman officially visits Algeria

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Saturday began his two-day visit to Algeria by holding talks with his counterpart Ramtame Lamamra. The two ministers underscored the traditionally good relations between Croatia and Algeria – two friendly countries with no outstanding issues.

Grlić Radman and Lamamra also confirmed mutual interest to advance political and economic cooperation.

“Croatia sees Algeria as a country that has successfully deterred terrorism and is one of the region’s leaders. Its continuity of stability is extremely important for Croatia and the EU, both because of Algeria’s stabilising role in the region and because of the successful prevention of escalation of migration waves from the Sahel and Africa,” Grlić Radman said.

Croatia attaches great importance to this first ministerial visit to Algeria, which represents an important step in the strengthening of political and economic relations.

Grlić Radman and Lamamra exchanged views on topics of mutual interest, with an emphasis on their countries’ respective regions – Southeast Europe and North Africa. In addition, they signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Croatian ministry’s Diplomatic Academy and the Algerian ministry’s Institute for Diplomacy.

On Sunday, representatives from the two countries will hold an economic forum and the chambers of commerce will sign a bilateral agreement for boosting economic cooperation.

“Croatia sees opportunities for advancing bilateral cooperation in the sectors of tourism, energy, shipbuilding, aquaculture, agriculture and maritime affairs, where our reputation, know-how and projects are well-known,” said Grlić Radman.
