State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko Zgombić on Monday held political consultations with Spanish State Secretary for the European Union Juan Gonzalez-Barba.
The meeting came just a few days after Spanish President Pedro Sánchez’s bilateral visit to Zagreb.
The two officials underscored excellent bilateral relations and expressed desire to deepen cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest. They also pointed out the prospects of advancing cooperation within the EU and Euro-Atlantic integration, and exchanged views on the enlargement policy, migration and other European topics.
Spain reiterated its support for the enlargement to the Western Balkans as well as for Croatia’s entry into the Schengen Area and eurozone. Metelko Zgombić and Gonzalez-Barba highlighted the two countries’ cooperation within MED9, which Croatia has recently joined with Spain’s support.
