State Secretary for Political Affairs Frano Matušić led a Croatian delegation at the fifth political consultations with Brazil, held via video link. The Brazilian delegation was led by Secretary at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega.
The consultations were primarily aimed at strengthening Croatia’s bilateral relations with Brazil as the biggest and economically strongest country of Latin America, as well as identifying concrete prospects and forms of cooperation, notably in economy, culture, education and defence. The participants also exchanged views on a number of multilateral and regional issues.
In addition, the participants talked about the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela and the situation in the Western Balkans. They tentatively agreed to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Croatia and Brazil the following year. Concerning multilateral issues, the participants discussed the closing of the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement. They also exchanged experiences with OECD accession and agreed to continue cooperating within the UN.
