Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Tuesday participated in an online meeting of NATO member states’ foreign ministers.

The ministers met ahead of a NATO summit, scheduled for 14 June in Brussels. The meeting focused on the NATO 2030 initiative, which aims to modernize the Alliance.

Grlić Radman underlined the importance of strengthening the cooperation between Europe and the U.S. as well as of reconfirming joint democratic norms and values. He said that NATO 2030 was a strategic framework for tackling the challenges of today, such as terrorism, hybrid threats, etc. “A greater use of non-military instruments, more frequent consultations and a stronger cooperation between NATO and the EU would contribute to the preservation of the international order and values that we are pushing for,” the minister said.

In addition, Grlić Radman underscored the strategic importance of the Western Balkans for NATO, adding that support for Bosnia and Herzegovina should be stepped up and that the engagement in Kosovo should continue. The minister also said that NATO and its member states should advocate a reform of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s election law to ensure legitimate representation of all three constituent peoples and avoid discrimination of citizens in BiH institutions.
