Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Thursday participated in a videoconference on the European journey of Albania and North Macedonia, organized by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu. The videoconference saw the participation of foreign ministers and state secretaries of EU member states, as well as Albanian Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka and North Macedonian Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani.
Grlić Radman underscored Croatia’s strong support for the start of EU membership negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia. “I would like to reiterate Croatia’s position and express hope that the consensus on negotiating frameworks would be reached without delay, followed by the intergovernmental conference with both countries,” he said, adding that the launch of negotiations would send a powerful signal to the Western Balkans that reforms pay off and efforts bring results, which is in line with the EU’s interests as well.
The minister also reflected on the fight against the pandemic, welcoming the EU’s initiative to dispatch vaccine to the Western Balkan countries. He informed the participants that the Croatian Government had adopted a decision to donate 10,000 doses of vaccine to Albania and Macedonia respectively, so that social and economic recovery could begin as soon as possible.
