Military parade with far the greatest number of civilian and military participants was held on 1 October 2009 to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Along the main street and at the large Tian'anmen Square in the heart of Beijing fifty-six phalanxes, consisting of 8,000 servicemen and women, nearly 500 tanks, missiles and other military vehicles and 151 warplanes, joined the parade. Shown were 52 types of weapons produced in the People's Republic of China, including the most modern nuclear missiles.

Within the civilian program, vivid choreographies represented all regions and nationalities of the People's Republic of China.
President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao welcomed the festive parade participants, while the high-ranking civilian and defense officials, as well as their honorary guests, including foreign ambassadors and military attaches accredited to PR China, watched on from the auditorium.
