Minister Grlić Radman attends 45th government session

At its 45th session on Thursday, the Croatian Government adopted a decision on launching the process of Croatia’s accession to the Memorandum of Understanding on the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats

At its 45th session on Thursday, the Croatian Government adopted a decision on launching the process of Croatia’s accession to the Memorandum of Understanding on the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE), proposed the adoption of a decision to send humanitarian aid to Yemen and adopted a decision on the Memorandum of Understanding between Croatia and Albania on the reconstruction of liria School in Fushë-Krujë as well as an agreement on splitting the expenses with a third party between Croatia (donor) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Discussing Croatia’s participation in Hybrid CoE, Grlić Radman said it would contribute to the country’s international visibility, enable a timely involvement in matters of importance to our security and geopolitical position, and allow the transfer of our own views on hybrid activities in Europe, notably its southeastern part.

In addition, the minister proposed the adoption of a decision to send humanitarian aid to Yemen on the occasion of the Virtual High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Situation in Yemen. He recalled that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen is considered the world’s worst right now. The international community’s response is being coordinated by the UN. The Pledging Event, scheduled for 1 March, will present the UN’s Humanitarian Response Plan worth USD 3.8 billion.

Given the severity of the crisis, as well as Croatia’s past engagement and the overall engagement by EU member states, which are among the largest donors, the Croatian Government will announce its contribution at the Pledging Event to the amount of USD 100,000, to be directed at alleviating hunger among the worst affected part of the population through the UN World Food Programme.

The government also adopted the decision on the Memorandum of Understanding between Croatia and Albania on the reconstruction of liria School in Fushë-Krujë as well as the agreement on splitting the expenses with a third party between Croatia (donor) and the UNDP.

Following the earthquake that hit Albania on 26 November 2019, a donor conference was held in February 2020, at which Croatia announced its contribution to the reconstruction of educational or healthcare infrastructure to the amount of 1 million euro, approved by the government’s decision of 13 February 2020. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, as the relevant body, accepted Albania’s proposal that said amount be used to reconstruct the liria School in Fushë-Krujë. The implementation partner for said project is the UNDP.
