Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Wednesday participated in a virtual meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism, a forum promoting joint responses to global challenges through the strengthening of multilateral cooperation.
Organized by the German and French ministries of foreign affairs, the meeting was held on the margins of the high-level segment of the UNHRC session. It focused on the exchange of views on the protection of human rights in a digital world, the impact of climate change on human rights, with an emphasis on women, as well as readiness for and response to health crises.
Grlić Radman underscored the importance of solidarity and cooperation in forming responses to crises, including COVID-19. He highlighted the central role of the World Health Organization and welcomed its continued reforms aimed at better preparedness for future health crises.
The minister also reflected on the issue of climate change and environmental devastation, which, like the current crisis, further deepen social inequalities, making vulnerable groups even more vulnerable. He called for continued empowerment of women as important social factors in reducing catastrophe risks and building resilience.
Lastly, Grlić Radman stressed the need for boosting interdisciplinary research and developing digital norms and regulations with the aim of enjoying the benefits of artificial intelligence without sacrificing human rights.
