State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić on Thursday received the inaugural visit from Portuguese Ambassador Maria Paula Leal da Silva.

The two officials highlighted very good relations between Croatia and Portugal, underscoring readiness for intensive cooperation during Portugal’s Council of the EU presidency and additional strengthening of bilateral relations.

Leal da Silva expressed openness to cooperation in matters of mutual interest, announcing the first meeting of EU ambassadors to Croatia in the near future, at which one of the topics is to be the Schengen Area.

Metelko-Zgombić thanked for the solidarity and aid Portugal had sent to Croatia via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism in the wake of the December 2020 earthquake. The Portuguese ambassador congratulated Croatia on the excellent results of its EU presidency that had taken place amid the challenging circumstances caused by the pandemic.
