State Secretary Lucić visits Petrinja with Hungarian counterpart Soltész

State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić visited quake-hit Petrinja with the State Secretary for Religious and Ethnic Relations at the Office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Miklós Soltész

State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić visited quake-hit Petrinja with the State Secretary for Religious and Ethnic Relations at the Office of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Miklós Soltész. The visit was a follow-up to the last week’s meeting between foreign ministers Gordan Grlić Radman and Peter Szijjarto, when it was announced that Hungary, along with the humanitarian aid that had already been sent, would reconstruct a school building and a church in Sisak-Moslavina County.

The two state secretaries therefore toured the quake-damaged First Elementary School in Petrinja and the Church of St. Nicholas and Vitus in Žažina, which Hungary had decided to reconstruct.

Lucić thanked his counterpart and the Hungarian Government for their swift response and donations, as well as the City of Petrinja and Sisak-Moslavina County for their assistance in determining which buildings would have the priority in reconstruction.

Soltész underlined that, after centuries of coexistence and very good relations between the two countries, it was only natural that Hungary helped Croatia. He added that Hungary would provide summer accommodation for 200 children at Lake Velence.

Immediately after the devastating earthquakes that hit Sisak-Moslavina County, Hungary donated 250 beds and 250 sleeping bags through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, as well as 5000 lamps (Tungsram) and 56 container homes (MOL) bilaterally, through corporate donations.

Croatian self-government also announced that it would provide summer accommodation for 100 children in the Island of Pag.
