Ministers Grlić Radman and Szijjártó visit Petrinja

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Friday visited the Lieutenant Colonel Predrag Matanović barracks in Petrinja

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Friday visited the Lieutenant Colonel Predrag Matanović barracks in Petrinja.

The two ministers toured the first two out of 50 container homes which Hungary decided to donate to the people whose houses were damaged by the earthquake in the Sisak-Moslavina County.

Grlić Radman thanked Hungary for its assistance, underscoring that as early as the day after the quake Hungary had already dispatched folding beds and sleeping bags through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. He added that Hungary had also been among the first countries to send aid after the Zagreb earthquake in March 2020.

“I am sincerely grateful to Minister Szijjártó and the Hungarian Government for coming to Petrinja and for donating humanitarian aid, which will provide at least part of the people in the area with a temporary roof over their heads,” Grlić Radman said.

Szijjártó announced that the remaining containers would arrive the following week. “I wish you strength and endurance, and believe me when I tell you that the Hungarians stand with you,” the minister said.

The Head of the Civil Protection Directorate for Earthquake Relief, Deputy Prime Minister Tomo Medved, also thanked Hungary for its assistance. “The earthquake has united the Croatian people, as well as all the neighbouring and partner countries, especially EU members,” he underscored.
