Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman on Friday participated in a ministerial video conference of the International Coalition for the Sahel. Apart from foreign ministers of the EU and G5 Sahel (Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Chad), the conference also saw representatives of EU institutions, UN, African Union, US, Canada and other partners.
The participants presented the elements and goals of the Coalition for the Sahel and Partnership for Security and Stability in the Sahel (P3S). Addressing the event, Grlić Radman said that stabilization was important not only for the Sahel countries, but for Africa as a whole, as well as for Europe and the world, underscoring that it required an international and integrated approach that would contribute to capacity building in the region. “We see the Coalition as an important tool for strengthening the existing progress,” the minister said, adding that these goals could only be achieved through joint commitment, cooperation and responsibility in military, security, political and development aspects. Concluding his address, Grlić Radman emphasized that stability in the Sahel was crucial for overcoming the migratory challenge and its root cause.
